Mr. Oscar R. Lilley, age 79, a resident of 1554 Free Union Church Road, Pinetown, died Wednesday morning April 22, 2009 at home.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Friday April 24, 2009 at the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home in Washington officiated by Rev. John Mark Windley. Burial will follow in the Lilley Family Cemetery. His nephews, Bobby Lilley, Marshall Lilley, Lewis Woolard, Phillip Woolard, Donald Woolard, Jimmy Woolard and Lacy Boyd, Jr. will serve as pallbearers.
Mr. Lilley was born in Beaufort County on November 11, 1929, son of the late Henry Lilley and Annie Harris Lilley. He was a farmer and a retired employee of the Beaufort County School System. On August 5, 1950, he married the former Evelyn White who preceded him in death on September 20, 2000. Mr. Lilley was a member of Shiloh Original Free Will Baptist Church. He was a founder, charter member, and past President of the Pungo Swamp Hunting Club. He was “an avid hunter and fisherman” and loved his dogs.
He is survived by his three daughters: Sue Chosewood and her husband, Marty of Pinetown, Janie Mason and her husband, Jack of Vanceboro and Joann Windley and her husband, John Mark of Pinetown; his seven grandchildren: Amanda Van Gyzen, Karen Carson, Jerod Benson, Samantha Waters, Zachary Boyd, Adam Windley and Amber Windley; six great grandchildren and his three sisters: Minnie Burford, Thelma Woolard and her husband J.L., Margaret Manning and her husband, Jimmie. In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by three step-sisters: Mary Woolard, Nellie Tetterton and Lena Boyd and two step-brothers: Jatha Lilley and Robert “Bud” Lilley.
The family will receive friends 7:00-8:30 PM Thursday at Paul Funeral Home in Washington and other times at the home located at 1554 Free Union Church Road, Pinetown.
