Terra Ceia golf coach Scott Clark notched the 50th win of his career during his team’s match Tuesday at the Washington Country Club.
Terra Ceia captured third in the match with a 379, trailing only Lawrence (337) and Northeast (371). The Knights finished ahead of Hobgood, Albemarle, Pungo and Ridgecroft, which gave Clark his 50th win.
Wayne Woolard II shot a 76 to pace the Knights. Also scoring were Andrew Darkow (89), Grant Gelderman (99) and Catherine Smith (115). Playing but not figuring in the scoring were Marti Weston (118) and Griffin Jackson (132).
Albemarle’s Bo Thompson earned medalist honors with a 73.
Clark has been affiliated with the Terra Ceia golf team the last 11 years. He was a member of the golf team in its first five years of existence, before taking over as assistant coach. Clark has been head coach the past two years.
The Knights are currently ranked eighth among the Class 1A schools in the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association. Four of the top 10 teams hail from the Tarheel Independent Conference.
The Knights return to the links today when they play at Ironwood Country Club in Greenville for a 2 p.m. match.
Northside golfers qualify for regionals
The Northside golf team shot a 374, good for third place at Monday’s Atlantic/Albemarle match at Cyrpess Landing. The finish earned the Panthers a qualifying spot in Monday’s regional tournament.
Jared Adams paced the Panthers with an 86.
Williamston, led by medalist Faith Hardison, who fired an 80, won the match with a 346.
Manteo was third (370) and Southside fourth (457).
TENNIS
Pack netters fall to Bears
Washington Pam Pack seniors Gray Stowe, Matt Batchelor, Josh Elks and Will Davis played in the final home match of their high school tennis careers on Tuesday.
The New Bern Bears spoiled Senior Day with an 8-1 victory.
Batchelor and Elks combined at No. 3 doubles for Washington’s lone win, taking an 8-3 win over Brooks Young and Tyler Francio.
New Bern won the singles matches in straight sets as John Finlayson topped Stowe 6-0, 6-1, Nick Schibel beat Batchelor 6-0, 6-0, UK Liam downed Josh Elks 6-0, 6-0, Steve Gilgo knocked off Brandon Washington 6-3, 6-2, Sam Avolis held off Colin Daw 6-4, 6-2 and Duncan Price got past Jacob Elks 6-4, 6-1.
Finlayson/Schibel defeated Stowe/Elks 8-0 and Robbie Patterson/Dylan Simel fought off Washington/Daw 9-7 in the other doubles matches.
Washington plays at West Craven today in its final conference match of the season.
SOCCER
Pam Pack soccer ties Rampants
The Washington Pam Pack and J.H. Rose Rampants finished in a 1-1 tie in Monday’s Coastal Conference girls soccer action.
Washington is now 3-9-1 overall, and 3-7-1 in conference play. The Pack is 2-0-1 over its last three matches.
Washington travels to New Bern (14-1-1) for a 7 p.m. match today. The Pam Pack is home for its final two games as Washington plays host to Havelock on May 4 and West Carteret on May 6.
BASEBALL
Pack falls to Rampants
J.H. Rose scored six runs in the first and Washington could never recover, as the Rampants (15-2, 8-2) took a 12-0 win over the Pam Pack (11-7, 5-6).
Austin Thompson and Justin Meekins each had two hits for the Pack.
David Tyson suffered the loss.
Washington plays at New Bern on Friday.
Pungo pounds Albemarle
The Raiders baseball team beat Albemarle, 18-3, on Tuesday behind a strong pitching effort from freshman Ethan Credle.
Credle had five strikeouts and three walks in the winning effort. He also went 3-for-3 at the plate.
Chris Smith was perfect on the day, as well, going 3-for-3.
Pungo rounds out the season Thursday at home against rival Terra Ceia at 4 p.m.
Tigers two in two days from Plymouth
The Williamston baseball team beat the Vikings, 11-9, on Tuesday, The win for the Tigers came one day after they beat Plymouth at home in five innings.
Winning pitcher Will Davis came on in relief of starting pitcher Kyle Peaks after Peaks gave up six runs on six hits in 2 2/3 innings. Davis did his part, throwing 3 2/3 of three-run ball with eight strikeouts.
Josh Warren closed out the game for the Tigers.
Williamston was led on offense by Stephen Scott (2-for-4), Brandon Brown (2-for-3) and Walt Ainge (1-for-2)
The Tigers (12-7, 8-3) play Friday at Northside.
SOFTBALL
Seahawks take close one from Pirates
The Southside softball team beat the Pirates 2-1 on Tuesday night thanks to a clutch RBI double from D.D. Stanley.
Stanley put the Seahawks up 2-1 in the fifth when she drove in Shakira Lomax.
Emily Smith got the win for Southside, giving up one run in a complete game effort.
The Seahawks (12-7, 9-2) travel to Roanoke on Friday for a 7 p.m. conference clash.
Lohman is excited about his team’s prospects going into the playoffs.
Williamston softball tops Plymouth
Heather Jackson fired a no-hitter and banged out two hits as the Williamston Tigers picked up an 11-1 win over the Plymouth Vikings in Monday’s softball action.
Jackson, who fanned five, tripled among her two hits. The Tigers, who scored nine runs in the second inning, also got hits from Harris Shepherd (1-3), Cassie Harrell (1-2, RBI), Bailey Cowan (1-1), Rhonda Manning (1-2), Kellen Edwards (1-2), Meredith Robertson (1-3) and Courtney Wynn (1-3, 2B).
The Tigers are now 11-6 overall and 8-2 in conference play.
