Mrs. Ollie Wilkinson Sawyer, age 94, of 3938 Avon Road, Grimesland, NC passed away at Britthaven of Washington on Tuesday, May 5, 2009.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, May 7, 2009 at St. Clairs Church of Christ Cemetery, with Craig Hagen officiating. Levi Alligood, James Fottler, Daniel Selby, Danny Selby, Jason Setters and Kenny Waters will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends for a “celebration of her life” from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 6, 2009, at the home of her granddaughter Gail Fottler, 111 Lancaster Lane, Washington.
Mrs. Sawyer was born September 7, 1914 in Beaufort County to John Abram and Deanie Ross Wilkinson. She was married for fifty years to David Miller Sawyer who preceded her in death. Ollie loved the outdoors, particularly fishing and crabbing. Mrs. Sawyer dedicated to her daughter and granddaughters caring for their needs throughout her long life.
Survivors include one daughter, Geraldine Lee Newbern of Washington; three granddaughters, Karon Waters and husband Kenny of Grimesland, Gail Fottler and husband James of Washington and Patti Newbern of Washington; and seven great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by three brothers, Harold Wilkinson, John Wilkinson and Jack Frost Wilkinson; and one sister, Rena W. Barber.
