Stowe-Elks fall in regionals

WILSON — The Washington Pam Pack duo of Greg Stowe and Josh Elks lost in the N.C. High School Athletic Association Class 3-A East Regional tennis tournament Friday.
Top-seeded Julian Paulsen and Jordan Hagler of Southern Nash beat Stowe and Elks, 6-0, 6-0, in doubles play at the Barton College tennis courts. (WDN)
Knights, Raiders make playoffs
The Terra Ceia Knights and the Pungo Raiders both earned spots in the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association Class 1-A state softball playoffs.
Terra Ceia (12-7), the No. 8 seed, will play at top-seed Cape Fear (15-0) in Tuesday’s first-round action.
Pungo (8-9), the No. 5 seed, will play at No. 4 seed Hobgood (19-3) in Tuesday’s first-round playoff game.
The winners of those two games will play in the second round Friday at Campbell University in Buies Creek. (WDN)
WGSL players to appear at Lady Pack game
Players from the Washington Girls Softball League will appear at the home Washington Lady Pam Pack softball game on Tuesday.
The Lady Pack (14-4, 10-2) will face top-ranked D.H. Conley (18-1, 11-1) at 6:30 p.m. in a key Coastal Conference game. First place in the conference will be on the line Tuesday night. Washington handed the Vikings their only loss of the season.
Each girl attending wearing her team jersey will be admitted free with a paid adult. Immediately prior to the first pitch, the girls will take the field to stand with their varsity position player for the National Anthem. Game time is set for 6:30 p.m. and the girls are requested to arrive at the field by 6 p.m. (WDN)
Spring Fling Regatta slated
The Belhaven Yacht Club is sponsoring the Spring Fling Regatta for all sailboats under 20 feet. It will be held May 16-17 beginning at 10 a.m. each day at Bayside Marina, 1056 Hubs Rec Road, Belhaven. This is fun racing for any level of sailing and racing experience. Youth volleyball clinics set
Youth volleyball clinics will be held May 18 through Aug. 5. Former ECU volleyball coach Chris Rushing will be running the clinics.
The clinics are for rising 4-6 grade, 7-8 grade and 9-12 grade students.
You may register immediately, or at any time during the summer, as long as space is available.

White Caps registration
Registration for the Washington White Caps summer swim team will be held at the Washington Racquet Club on Wednesday, May 13 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The registration fee is $100 for the whole summer.

The first “Beaufort County Brawl,” featuring the baseball and softball teams from Northeast, Bath, P.S. Jones and Chocowinity middle schools, will be held May 12-13 at Northeast Middle School.
Admission is $4. No booster passes will be accepted. A concession stand will be available. Raffle tickets for a new baseball bat and a new softball bat will be sold.
The Chocowinity and P.S. Jones baseball and softball teams will play at 4 p.m. Tuesday, followed by baseball and softball games pitting Northeast against Bath. The losers will play Wednesday at 4 p.m. and the winners will meet at 6 p.m. (WDN)
Riptides soccer tryouts
Tryouts for the 2009/2010 Riptides soccer teams will be held at the McConnell Sports Complex.
Tryouts for Under 12 Girls will be held May 26 from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m., tryouts for Under 14 Girls will be May 26 from 7 to 8:15 p.m., tryouts for Under 12 Boys will be May 27 from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. and tryouts for Under 14 Boys will be May 27 from 7 to 8:15 p.m.
Registration begins 15 minutes before each session. All players must have a tryout release form signed by a parent or guardian in order to participate in the tryouts. Players should bring a soccer ball and wear appropriate footwear, shin guards and socks.
