Mrs. Katy Whealton Mayo, age 93, formerly of Brooks Lane, Blounts Creek, NC passed away Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at Britthaven of Washington.
A graveside funeral service will be held today at 3 p.m. at the Whealton Family Cemetery in the Campbells Creek Community.
The family will receive friends today from 1 to 2 p.m. at Smyrna Free Will Baptist Church, 154 Flat Swamp Road, Blounts Creek, NC.
Mrs. Mayo was born in Beaufort County on April 21, 1916 to Leven and Bessie Weatherington Whealton. On June 1, 1937 she married George Washington Mayo who preceded her in death on January 17, 1997. She was a homemaker, raising four sons, and was a member of the former Trinity Pentacostal Holiness Church.
Survivors include four sons, Sam Mayo and wife Sandra of Blounts Creek, Wayne Mayo and wife Carol Cratch Mayo of Washington, James Mayo of Blounts Creek and Larry Mayo and wife Cindi of Merrit, NC.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by twin sons, one sister, Emma Whealton Oleson and one brother, Stephen Whealton.
