Carlos Hoover Cuthrell, 89, of 36 Academy Street, Swan Quarter, died Friday, May 22, 2009 at Pungo District Hospital in Belhaven.
Born in Hyde County, September 16, 1919, he was the son of the late John Tooley and Ruth Carawan Cuthrell. He was married to the former Ernestine Thompson who preceded him in death after 46 years of marriage. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II, worked as a truck driver with Norfolk-Southern Railway after the war, spent his working years as a farmer and fertilizer dealer. He also served as chairman of the Selective Service Board in Hyde County and was a former partner of Radcliffe Marine in Belhaven.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the family plot in Soule Cemetery. Mike Wheeler will officiate.
Surviving are two daughters, Linda C. Watson and husband, Ed and Pam C. Mason and husband, Jimmy all of Swan Quarter; a sister, Vonda C. Rice of Chesapeake, VA; four grandchildren, Brett Mason, Stephanie Watson, Sam Watson all of Swan Quarter and Nickki Williams and husband, Joey of Grimesland; four greatgrandchildren, Tyius Watson, Allen Mason, Edward Credle and Mikalee Gibbs.
He was also preceded in death by brothers, Edward Cuthrell and Elbert Dewey “Duke” Cuthrell.
The family suggests that memorials be directed to Swan Quarter Volunteer Fire Dept., 25 Oyster Creek Road, P. O. Box 97 Swan Quarter, NC 27885.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Bryan Funeral Service and other times at the Cuthrell Home, 36 Academy Street in Swan Quarter.
