Mrs. Margaret Ray Cayton Clark, age 87, a resident of 1302 Possum track road, Chocowinity, died peacefully Friday, May 29, 2009 at Beaufort County Medical Center in Washington.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Tuesday, June 2, 2009 from the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home, Washington, conducted by Pastor Henry Horne and her grandson, Pastor Gene Williams, Jr. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens, Washington.
Mrs. Clark’s grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Mrs. Clark was born in the Edward community of Beaufort County on August 4, 1921. She was the daughter of the late Henry Wade Cayton and Phoebe Bennett Cayton. Mrs. Clark was a cosmetologist with Cinderella Beauty Shop from 1958 to 1964. Later, she operated a beauty shop out of her home. Mrs. Clark loved to sew and was known for her sewing. She made crafts and sold them out of her home. Mrs. Clark was a member of Union Chapel Free Will Baptist Church and taught the Primary Sunday School Class for several years. “She was a great mother and a friend to everyone who met her.”
On March 27, 1940, she married Alonza Dumay Clark, who preceded her in death, July 29, 1998.
Survivors include one daughter, Linda Williams and her husband, Gene of Vanceboro; seven sons, Dumay Clark and his wife, Christine, Tommy Clark and his wife, Ann all of Chocowinity; Terry Clark and his wife, Christy, David Clark and his wife, Shelia all of Washington; Mike Clark and his wife, Debbie of Blounts Creek; Clifton Clark and his wife, Betty of Cove City; Osborne Clark and his wife, Barbara of Greenville; her twin sister, Elizabeth Edwards of Chocowinity; 19 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Mrs. Clark was preceded in death by three sisters, Louise Johnson of Fayetteville, Lois Bonner of Washington, Lillian McRoy of Chocowinity and four brothers, Donald Cayton of Virginia, Alton Cayton of Chocowinity, Mayhew Cayton of Chocowinity, Wade Cayton of Wilmington.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm Monday, June 1, 2009 at Paul Funeral Home, Washington and other times at the home of her son, Tommy Clark, 7349 U.S. Highway 17 South, Chocowinity.
