Mrs. Hazel Cayton Boyd, age 96, a resident of 2407 Tunstall Swamp Rd., Aurora, NC, died Sunday June 7, 2009, at her home.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, June 10, 2009, at White Hill Free Will Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Robert Cayton and Rev. Wesley Taylor. Burial will follow in the Cayton Family Cemetery. Donald Boyd, John Boyd, James Dillon, Brian Dillon, Paul Cannon, Shanon Carter, and Chris Olzinski will serve as pallbearers. Darrell Cayton and Carl Cayton will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Mrs. Boyd was born on Tunstall Swamp Road, Aurora, on October 19, 1912, daughter of the late Barney West Cayton and the late Lucy Artelia Hardy Cayton. She was a 1930 graduate of Aurora High School and married Johnnie Thomas Boyd on December 24, 1930, who preceded her in death on June 12, 1979. Mrs. Boyd was a member of White Hill Original Free Will Baptist Church, where she was a valued member of its Ladies Auxiliary and the treasurer for her church for many years. She was a former member of the Beaufort County Home Extension, loved genealogy, Sewing, knitting, crocheting and gardening.
Survivors include a daughter: Barbara B. Wilson and her husband Delano of Winterville; a son: Chestine “C.G.” Boyd and his wife Peggy of Greensboro; five grandchildren: Connye Boyd Dillon and her husband James, Donald West Boyd and his wife Patricia, John Scott Boyd and his wife Victoria, Marjolein Wilson Cannon and her husband Paul and Barbara Dell Wilson Carter and her husband Shanon and seven great grandchildren: Brian Dillon, Christina Dillon, Caroline Olzinski and her husband Christopher, Richard Boyd, Jennifer Boyd, Lauren Boyd and Hailey Nelda Cannon. Mrs. Boyd was preceded in death by a daughter: Nelda West Boyd and two brothers: Robert B. Cayton and Chestine West Cayton.
The family will receive friends 6 PM to 8 PM Tuesday, June 9, 2009, at Paul Funeral Home of Washington and at other times at the home.

The family would like to thank Dr. Richard Young, Carla and Denise for their care and Mrs. Boyd’s caregivers: Linda Daniels, Diane Stilley, Marie Armstrong and Ascera Care Hospice, all who enabled Mrs. Boyd to fulfill her wish to stay at home throughout her illness.
