Mrs. Doris Marie Lewis Hodges, age 79, a resident of 6813 Brooks Ally, Grifton, NC died Tuesday June 9, 2009 at Pitt County Memorial Hospital.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday June 12, 2009 at White Hill Free Will Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Ray Pearce and Rev. Wesley Taylor. Burial will follow in the White Hill Cemetery. James D. Lewis, Jimmy Lewis, Ed Evans, Brandon Dail, Johnny Blaylock and Johnny Lewis will serve as pallbearers.
Mrs. Hodges was born in Beaufort County on December 10, 1929 daughter of the late Bruce Donald Lewis, Sr. and the late Eva Dora Buck Lewis. She was a graduate of Chocowinity High School and married Hilton K. Hodges on May 24, 1947 who preceded her in death on February 13, 2009. She was a member of White Hill Free Will Baptist Church, a homemaker and used her talents as an artist to create paintings and her skills as a seamstress to craft beautiful quilts.
Survivors include two daughters: Linda H. Rowe and her husband Hugh of Grifton and Jo H. Taylor and her husband Glenn of the Small Community of Aurora; five grandchildren: Chris Rowe and his wife Heather, Jodi Dail and her husband Brandon, Jessica Taylor, Hannah Blough and her husband Robert and Katie Blaylock and her husband Johnny; five great grandchildren: Brooke Rowe, Jordan Dail, Logan Dail, Dakota Blaylock and Cassidy Blough; a special friend who Mrs. Hodges considered as her daughter: Lola Evans and her husband Ed of Aurora; their son Marvin and grandson Ethan. Mrs. Hodges was preceded in death by four brothers: Billy Lewis, Alton Lewis, Bruce “Buster” Lewis, Jr. and Edmond Lewis and a sister: Joyce Barber.
The family will receive friends 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday June 11, 2009 at Paul Funeral Home of Washington and at other times at the home of her daughter, Linda Rowe, located at 6813 Brooks Ally, Grifton, NC.
