Wachovia Conference Cup winners announced|3-A, 1-A area results

Wachovia, a Wells Fargo company, along with the North Carolina High School Athletic Association, announced the final standings in the Wachovia Cup competitions for the 2008-2009 sports season.
The Wachovia Cup award, sponsored by Wachovia and the NCHSAA, recognizes the high schools that achieve the best overall interscholastic athletic performance within each of the state's four competitive classifications. Wachovia, a Wells Fargo company, has sponsored the conference awards program since 1980.
The Wachovia Conference Cup, formerly known as the Wachovia
Trophy, is a companion to the Wachovia Cup, a statewide award give to schools with the best overall interscholastic athletic performance in each of the four classifications.
In most conferences, points are awarded based on participation and standings in conference play. Each conference determines its own method of awarding points.
Coastal 3-A/4-A: A tie for first place in baseball and outright league championships in tennis and women’s track allowed J.H. Rose to capture the Cup. New Bern was the second place team with a tie for first place in baseball men’s soccer and track titles. Conference Standings: J.H.
Rose 216.5, New Bern 211.5, West Carteret 183.5, D.H. Conley 178.5, South Central 178, Havelock 168, Washington 166.5, West Craven 99.5.
Class 1-A Conference Results
Atlantic 1-A: Second place finishes in both baseball and softball enabled Williamston to hold off the rest of the league and win the conference cup. Southside finished the year a close second after winning championships in baseball and softball. Conference Standings: Williamston 50.5, Southside 46, Roanoke 43, Northside 40.5.
Albemarle 1-A: A league title in softball and a third place finish in baseball allowed Manteo to capture this year’s title. Camden is the conference runner-up on the strength of a second place finish in softball. Perquimans rounds out the top three, thanks to a championship in baseball. Conference Standings: Manteo 94.5, Camden 83.5, Perquimans 75.5, Plymouth 59.
Tideland 1-A: Jamesville is the Cup winner after capturing league championships in both baseball and softball this spring. Cape Hatteras is the runner-up with Creswell rounding out the top three. Conference Standings: Jamesville 35, Cape Hatteras 33, Creswell 26, Bear Grass 22, Columbia 21, Mattamuskeet 20, Ocracoke 4.
