WILLIAMSTON, NC — William Powell Belch, 73, of 2790 Prison Camp Road, died Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at UNC Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill. Mr. Belch was born in Colerain, NC on October 15, 1935 to the late Cecil James and Clarine Powell Belch. He was retired from Weyerhaeuser Company. Mr. Belch was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He was an active member of the Williamston Church of Christ, an avid sportsman and member of Fairview Hunting Club.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 13, 2009 at Williamston Church of Christ with Rev. E.J. Wyant officiating. Burial will be at Davenport Cemetery in the Mackeys Community of Washington County. The family received friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, June 12, 2009 at Walker Funeral Home in Williamston and other times from the home.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia D. Belch of the home; three daughters, Pamela B. Sawyer of Selma, NC, Penney B. Doughtie and husband Jim of Washington, NC and Lisa B. Sawyer and husband Rodney of Winterville, NC; one brother, C.J. Belch of Mackeys, NC; two sisters, Pat B. Terry of Greenville, NC and Betty Lou B. Watters of Virginia Beach, Va.; four granddaughters, Brooke Belch, Kasey Doughtie, Sarah Doughtie and Dannah Sawyer. Step-son, David Lambert of Williamston, NC.
