Mr. Troy Lee Koonce, Sr., age 78, a resident of 1049 Deer Tract Drive, Washington, passed away at his home Sunday, June 14, 2009.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, June 18, 2009 at Oakdale Cemetery with Rev. Nelson Koonce officiating. Billy Bland, Sr., Billy Bland, Jr., Ernie Deitrick, Johnny Hodges, Dallas Linton and Jodie Wynn will serve as pallbearers. Troy Ball will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at Hillside Funeral Service, 4500 Highway 264 East, Washington, NC.
Mr. Koonce was born January 4, 1931 in Pitt County to Zebulon Vance Koonce, Sr. and Beatrice Ann Priest. On December 19, 1955 Troy was married to Shirley Mae Cutler who survives. He was an electrical foreman with Hamilton Beach until his retirement. Mr. Koonce was an avid fisherman and hunter and was a member of the Tranter’s Creek Hunting Club. He was a member of Grimesland FWB Church.
In addition to his wife Mr. Koonce is survived by three sons, Troy Lee Koonce, Jr. and Mary Bowen of Washington, Eston L. Koonce and wife Brenda of Washington, and Nelson Koonce and wife Holly of Beulaville; two daughters, Patty Koonce of Washington and Renda Bland and husband Billy, Jr. of Washington; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brother Preston V. Koonce, Sr. of Bath; three sisters, Margaret Goins of Simi Valley, CA, Shelby Squires and Judy Koonce both of Washington.
In addition to his parents Mr. Koonce was preceded in death by two brothers, two sisters and two grandchildren.
