J.C. Small of Mullins, SC, aged 83, passed away on June 23, 2009.
Mr. Small was born in Horry County on July 9, 1925, son of the late Carson Powell and Miltie McDaniels. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Evo Lou Collins Small, and a grandson Keith Tindall.
He was a decorated Army veteran, proudly serving his country during WWII where he received numerous awards, including three Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart Medal. He owned a service station for 34 years, was a dedicated volunteer for the Mullins Fire Department for 30 years, and was an active member of the VFW and the American Legion.
Surviving Mr. Small are his four daughters, Faye Conner (Walt) of Rocky Mount, NC; Annette Ammons (Michael) of Myrtle Beach; Jackie Tindall (Art) of Washington, N.C.; and Susan B. Ivey (David) of Mullins; as well as a sister, Pauline Smith (Ernest) of Mullins; seven grandchildren, Jay Daugherty, Scott Tindall, Sean Brown, Johnny Brown, Marcus Ammons, Luanne Ammons, and De Ivey; eleven great-grandchildren, Jessica, Meagan, Erica, Jordan, Sarah, Jackson, Austin, MacKenzie, Collin, Tiffany, and Matthew; and a special friend Ruby Miles, and her daughter Amelia Miles of Florence.
Family will receive friends at the home of Susan Ivey, 3807 Sand Hill Rd., Mullins.
A visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 24, 2009, at Meares Funeral Home, Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 25, 2009, at Riverside Cemetery in Nichols with the Reverend Marion Watkins officiating.
