Washington will be well represented in Williamston at the state tournament. Washington teams won championships in the 8U, 10U and 12U divisions during the 2009 ENC District 6 Babe Ruth softball tournament, which concluded Friday evening at the Susiegray McConnell Sports Complex.
Williamston won the 14U championship while Chocowinity claimed the 16 title.
“The tournament has been a fantastic success,” Washington Girls Softball League president Greg Dority said. “We’ve had record gate, had some great games, the city has been great, our volunteers have been great and, all in all, it’s been a big success for softball in eastern North Carolina.”

The state tournament begins July 8 in Williamston. The teams that finish first and second in each age division in the state tournament move on to the southeast regional in Varina, Va. the following week.
