Hazel Pearl Porter Bright, 84, of Grifton, daughter of Leon and Pearlie Porter (both deceased), beloved wife of Dr. Edward B. Bright, of Grifton, died peacefully at their Core Point home on Friday, June 26, 2009.
Mrs. Bright was the loving mother of 4, grandmother of 8 and great grandmother of 5. A native of Beaufort Co., she and Ed moved to Grifton in 1953 making the small town their lifelong home. There Mrs. Bright was an active member of the community while raising her 4 children. Mrs. Bright served many years as the town librarian before pursuing her passion for teaching and art. She began directing the arts and crafts dept. at W.B. Jones ARC which she did for 15 years. Mrs. Bright spent the rest of her active years teaching everything from woodworking to rug hooking to all that were willing to learn. She became nationally recognized for her superb rug hooking artistry and was featured in national and local articles for her creations. Throughout her life, Mrs. Bright’s Greatest pride was that of being a loving mother, grandmother and beloved wife of 63 years to her husband Ed, who survives her.
Remaining here are her children: Timothy Allen Bright, of Grifton, Tony Blake Bright, of Goldsboro, Pearla Kay Bright, of Grifton and their spouses and children. She is also survived by her siblings, Leon Gray Porter and Edna Hill Porter and Special friends, Pearlie Dixon and Pat Olijar.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, June 29th at 2:00pm at First Baptist Church, in Grifton where Mrs. Bright was a lifelong member.
Burial will follow in Grifton Cemetery.
Visitation is Sunday evening from 7-9pm at Farmer Funeral Service-Ayden.
