Mrs. Sibyl Lorraine Hassell Baker, age 90, a resident of 504 Hudnell St. Washington, died Monday June 29, 2009 at the Beaufort County Medical Center.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday July 2, 2009 at Paul Funeral Home of Washington and will be conducted by Ray West. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. The elders and deacons of the church will serve as pallbearers.
Mrs. Baker was born in Beaufort County on May 7, 1919 to the late Edward and Lilly Lewis Hassell. On November 27, 1943 she married John Isaac Baker who preceded her in death on February 21, 2002. She was a graduate of Washington High School and for 20 plus years was a buyer of women’s clothing for the William Taylor Company. She was a very active member of First Church of Christ and a member of the Ladies Circle at First Church of Christ.
Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers: Edward Spencer “Bud” Hassell, Jr. and James O. Hassell.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday July 1, 2009 at Paul Funeral Home of Washington and from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. at Mrs. Baker’s home, 504 Hudnell St. Washington.
