Washington’s 8U, 12U teams stay alive|ENC State Babe Ruth tourney continues

WILLIAMSTON — Some local teams were playing for their playoff lives on Thursday’s second day of the ENC State Babe Ruth Softball Tournament.
There were 24 games played at Godwin-Coppage Park, which included a handful of local teams.
Washington’s 8U team knocked off Down East, 10-4, to stay alive in the tournament. Washington advanced to today’s 9 a.m. game against Laurinburg.
Thanks to an 8-7 win over Williamston on Wednesday, the Washington 10U squad had the day off. The 10U squad returns to action today at 11 a.m. against Pitt County.
Washington’s 12U team, which opened the tournament with an 11-4 victory over Henderson-Vance, fell 5-0 to Pitt County Thursday morning. The Washington squad stayed alive with an 11-1 win over Swansboro Thursday night. Washington will play at 4 p.m. today against the loser between Laurinburg and New Bern.
Washington’s 14U team will look to stave off elimination when it plays at 9 a.m. today against Williamston. The 14U team lost its tournament opener, 4-3 to Wilson, on Wednesday.
Chocowinity’s 14U team was eliminated with its second loss Thursday. After suffering a 4-3 loss to Henderson-Vance on Wednesday, the Chocowinity squad fell 12-2 to Williamston on Thursday.
Chocowinity’s 16U team, which lost 7-2 to Newport on Wednesday, takes on Henderson-Vance at 6 p.m. today.
Washington’s 18U team begins tournament action today. The Washington team will face Cashie at 1 p.m. at the Williamston High School softball field.
