Mrs. Frances Scoggins McCauley Tyer

JACKSONVILLE, FL — Mrs. Frances Scoggins McCauley Tyer, 88, formerly of Washington and Bath, died on June 28, 2009 at Baptist Medical Center South in Jacksonville, FL after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Mrs. Tyer was born in Belton, SC on September 26, 1920 and raised in Gibsonville, NC. She was the daughter of the late Lee Scoggins and Elizabeth Poole Scoggins of Gibsonville, NC and the sister of Robert, Lucille, Hovey, Hazel and Gary Scoggins, all deceased.
In 1944, Mrs. Tyer married Charles McCauley of Burlington who preceded her in death in 1958. In 1960, she married Harold Tyer of Bath who also preceded her in death. Mrs. Tyer was a member of the Washington Women’s Club where she served as Secretary in 1955, President in 1956, and District Secretary of the State Federation of Women’s Clubs. She was elected “Woman of the Year” in 1959. Mrs. Tyer was a member of the Bath Christian Church and the First Christian Church of Washington where she was a member of the Christian Women’s Fellowship.
She is survived by four children, Beth McCauley of Atlanta, GA, Rodney  McCauley of Jacksonville, FL, Sharon Tyer of Raleigh, NC, and Lin Tyer and wife Dorita of Many, LA; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at Hillside Funeral Service in Washington from 12 noon to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 18, 2009 followed by a memorial service at Bath Christian Church at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Curtis White officiating. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery in Washington.
