Mrs. Harriette Alfred Midyette Paul, age 92, a resident of 140 Harbor Road, Washington, died Friday July 17, 2009 at Britthaven Nursing Home of Washington.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday July 20, 2009 at the Holy Cross Episcopal Church in Aurora, officiated by Rev. Fred Fordham.
Mrs. Paul was born in Beaufort County on June 17, 1917, daughter of the late Frederick Roberts Alfred and Johnnie Alfred. She was a 1933 graduate of Aurora High School and 1935 graduate of St. Mary’s College. On January 9, 1937 she married Jack B. Midyette, who preceded her in death on January 10, 1948. Later, she married J.T. Paul on October 8, 1949 who preceded her in death on September 5, 1988.
She and her husband Jack managed the House Restaurant at the Capitol in Washington, D.C., and later was employed by the General Accounting Office. Mrs. Paul was a lifetime member of Holy Cross Episcopal Church, longtime member of the Vestry, President of Episcopal Church Women, office assistant and director of weddings for St. Paul’s Episcopal Church of Cary; member of the Alter Guild, Eastern Star, president of the PTA and volunteered for the migrate camp workers.
Mrs. Paul is survived by her son: Jack B. Midyette and his wife, Lee of Washington; her two grandsons: Jack B. Midyette, III of Wake Forest, Damron T. Midyette and his wife, Lynn of Clayton and their children, Jake, Hannah and Noah. She is preceded in death by her brother: Buddy Alfred and her two sisters: Mary Peay and Dell Canady.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Holy Cross Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 118, Aurora, NC 27806 or to Community Home Care and Hospice, 814 Washington Plaza, Washington, NC 27889. The family would like to extend special thanks to Community Home Care and Hospice and Cindy Garner.
The family will receive friends Sunday July 19, 2009 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the home or following the service at the church.
