Mrs. Pearle Davenport Clark, lovingly called “Mama Clark”, age 82, a resident of 917 Gray Road, Chocowinity has gone to a home, not made with hands, on Tuesday morning July 21, 2009 at the home of Gloria and Watson Elks.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, July 24, 2009 at the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home in Washington with Rev. Henry Horne officiating. Burial will follow at Pamlico Memorial Gardens, Washington.
Stephen Elks, Jamie Elks, Rodney Clark, Jr., Randy Clark, Connie Davis and Randy Hufton will serve as pallbearers. Kevin Sparks, Tony Lopez and Brandon Rowe will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Mrs. Clark was born in the Pungo Community on May 18, 1927, daughter of the late Collie Davis Davenport and Monnie Hollon Davenport. On December 24, 1946, she married Garland Swindell Clark who preceded her in death on February 13, 2001. Mrs. Clark was a member of Union Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, a member of the Adult Sunday School Class, and a lifetime member of Chapter 48 Disabled American Veteran Auxiliary. Mrs. Clark was employed as a seamstress with Sampson/Hampton Shirt Factory until her retirement in 1973. Mrs. Clark also served the public as a seamstress until her failing health.
She is survived by four daughters: Gloria Clark Elks and husband, Watson and Judy Clark McRoy and husband, Jay all of Chocowinity, Christy Clark Lopez and husband Adam of Washington and Cindy Clark Arnold and husband Gary of Greenville; two sons: William E. “Bill” Clark and wife Ann of Grimesland and Rodney Clark, Sr. of Washington; two sisters: Hazel Davenport Larson of Hayden Lake, Idaho and Lucille Davenport Frye of Rifle, Colorado; 16 grandchildren, Stephen, Jamie, Jill, Jan, Joy, Nicole, Rebecca, Randy, Rodney, Jr., Karen, Tony, Tiara, Stone, Chyna, Brittany and Brandon; and 10 great grandchildren, Angela, Ali, Raven, Dakota, Kevin, Sondra, Hunter, Walker, Bret and Chris.
In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by four brothers: Roderick Davenport, Ray Davenport, Hollon Davenport and Delano Davenport and one sister: Dorothy Clark.
The family will receive friends 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, July 23, 2009 at Paul Funeral Home, Washington and other times at the home of Judy and Jay McRoy, 2564 Taylor Road, Chocowinity.
