Mr. Elvine Preston Harris, 79, of Roper, died unexpectedly Sunday, July 26, 2009, at his residence.
Born July 24, 1930 in Pasquotank County, he was the son of the late Rufus Harris and Hazel Cartwright Harris and was preceded in death by his sisters, Louise H. Felton and Jean H. Wilson; brothers, Raymond Harris, Garland Harris and Thomas Harris. Mr. Harris was a retired farmer and member of Roper Baptist Church.
His family includes his wife, Judy Tetterton Harris of Roper, N.C.; sons, Michael D. Harris and Terry D. Harris of Roper, N.C., Preston Harris, Jr. of Williamston, N.C., Stacy Boyce of Kill Devil Hills, N.C.; daughters, Debra A. Worley of Camden, N.C. and Lori A. Roberson of Plymouth, N.C.; sisters, Patricia H. Kiewert of Goldsboro, N.C. and Doris H. Leedom of Jacksonville, FL; brothers, Donnie Harris and Bobby Harris of Elizabeth City, N.C.; sixteen grandchilden and ten great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday, July 29, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Roper Baptist Church, Roper with Rev. Howard Simpson officiating. Burial will follow in Westlawn Cemetery, Elizabeth City. Family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 28, 2009, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Roper Baptist Church and other times at the residence of his son, Michael D. Harris. Flowers are welcomed or donations may be made to Roper Baptist Church Mission Fund, 44 Griffin Road, Roper, NC 27970. Arrangements are by Maitland Memorial Chapel, Plymouth.
