Mr. Robert Hartwell “Bobby” Harris, age 72, a resident of 2306 Hwy. 171 North, Washington died Saturday evening July 25, 2009 at the University Health Care Inpatient Hospice Home in Greenville following a sickness of over 22 years.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday July 28, 2009 at the chapel of Paul Funeral Home in Washington officiated by Levi Cichorz and Eddie Bowen. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. Jerry Dean Jackson, Tommy Hale, Mike Ingalls, Ronald Moore, Joe Ayers and Linwood Boyd will serve as pallbearers. Archie Griffin, Ridge Hodges, Chris Ross and Lauren Moore will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Mr. Harris was born in the Bear Grass community on August 15, 1936 son of the late Garland Winfield Harris and Estelle Abagail Hampton Harris. On June 3, 1961 he married the former Patsy Manning who survives. Mr. Harris was employed as a forest technician with Weyerhaeuser seed orchard and retired with 28 years service. He was a member of Old Ford Church of Christ and served as a Deacon as long as his health permitted. He enjoyed fishing and was an avid supporter of the UNC Tar Heels.
He is survived by his wife, Patsy of the home, his son: William Robert Harris of Seattle, WA; his sisters: Virginia Rawls and Sybil Williams both of Bear Grass and special family friend, Alice Harris. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers: Clay, Albert, and Jack Harris and his sisters: Doris Ward, Eleanor Rogerson and Mary Opal Harris.
The family will receive friends 9:30-10:45 a.m. prior to the service on Tuesday at Paul Funeral Home in Washington and other times at the home.
