Dorothy Cahoon Brickhouse

Mrs. Dorothy Cahoon Brickhouse, 92, of Columbia, died Monday, July 27, 2009, at Sentara Leigh Hospital, Norfolk, Virginia.
Born February 5, 1917 in Tyrrell County, she was the daughter of the late Walter A. Cahoon and Hattie McDaniel Cahoon and was preceded in death by her husbands, Rudolph Spencer, Raymond Lanier and Henry Brickhouse; daughters, Janice Lanier and Delories Rose; brothers, Maurice Cohoon, Horace Cahoon and Rexford Cahoon. Mrs. Brickhouse was a homemaker and member of Gum Neck Free Will Baptist Church.
Her family includes her daughters, Verna S. Bartholomew and husband Roy of Virginia Beach, Va., and Brenda S. Hall of Portsmouth, Va.; sons, Donald Lanier of Washington, N.C., and Clarence “Buddy” Brickhouse of Columbia, N.C.; brother, Jimmy Cahoon of Edenton, N.C.; nineteen grandchildren, twenty eight great-grandchildren and eleven great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, August 1, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Gum Neck Free Will Baptist Church, Columbia, with Rev. Gerald Perry and Joey Brickhouse officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Friday, July 31, 2009, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Maitland Funeral Home. Arrangements are by Maitland Funeral Home, Creswell.
