Shirley Collins Merrick entered in to an eternal and peaceful rest on Tuesday, August 4, 2009. She was the daughter of Helen C. Spencer and the late Louis Spencer. She was born October 27, 1945 and attended Davis High School. She became a faithful member in 1990 at the First Pentecostal Church of Engelhard. She was the secretary and a VERY active member of the church.
Home going services will be held Monday, August 10, 2009, at Davis Centre in Engelhard with Pastor George N. Merrick officiating.
On October 13, 1967, she was united in holy matrimony to Hubert Merrick and had six children. She was preceded in death by; Robert Merrick (son), Allie Collins and Claudia Bell (sisters), Zion Merrick (great-grandson) and Zeddie Perry (biological father).
Shirley leaves to cherish her memories: her loving and devoted husband, Hubert Merrick of the home; four daughters: Beverly Mann (a special son-in-law Thomas Mann) and Helen J. Merrick of Engelhard, NC, Hazel Merrick of Wendell, NC and Marylyn Merrick (raised as daughter) of Zebulon, NC, Two sons: Pastor George N. Merrick (Nancy) and William Merrick (Justina) of Engelhard, NC. Six sisters: Mary Beamon of Holly Springs, NC, Gail McNeil of Windsor, NC, Carolyn Williams (Lawrence) of Henryville, PA and Annie Gould of Brooklyn, NY, Sonya Perry and Ann Perry of VA. Four brothers: Louis Spencer Jr. (Mary) of Roper, NC, Gary Spencer of Raleigh, NC, Steve Perry and Zeddie Perry Jr. of VA. One uncle, Leo Collins of Engelhard, NC. She also had thirteen grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Also a host of very special friends.
