Miss Fannie Chesson, age 94, formerly of Raleigh, North Carolina, died July 19, 2009, in Charlotte, North Carolina. Miss Chesson had moved to Charlotte in August 2008 to be closer to her family and had enjoyed several months of independent living at Wilora Lake Lodge Retirement Community. She was then lovingly cared for in the Asbury Care Center at Aldersgate United Methodist Retirement Community.
Miss Chesson was born July 27, 1915 in Mackeys, North Carolina, a village on the Albemarle Sound. She was the daughter of Raymond Harris Chesson and Eva Skiles Chesson. After attending East Carolina Teachers’ College in Greenville, North Carolina, for one year, she and her younger sister moved to Raleigh where they attended King’s Business School.
A resident of Raleigh for more than seventy years, Miss Chesson was an active member of Edenton Street Methodist Church. She worked for the State Department of Revenue, State Capital Life Insurance Company and retired from Durham Life Insurance Company after thirty years employment.
Miss Chesson was deeply appreciative of music, art, drama, travel and reading. She was truly a life long learner even as her hearing loss and diminished vision challenged her. She was a tireless correspondent, communicating with thoughtful and heartfelt expression, and maintained relationships with relatives and friends through two or more generations. Vitally interested in people, blessed with an excellent memory and the ability to make those memories interesting to a listener, she will be especially missed as one who kept connections ongoing.
She is survived by her sister Elsie Chesson Carey of Charlotte and her two nieces, Anne Carey Welch and husband Donald of Charlotte and Jane Carey Karpick and husband Ronald of Falls Church, Virginia. Her great nephew Jonathan Karpick (Michele Jamison) and great niece Carey Karpick Engle (Michael) survive her, as well as dear cousins and other family members.
In addition to her parents, Miss Chesson was predeceased by her older sister, Mary, who died in childhood.

A private memorial service will take place at a later date.
