Mr. Linwood Earl Respass

Mr. Linwood Earl Respass, age 72, a resident of 111 South King Street, Bath, died Thursday, August 20, 2009 at Pitt County Memorial Hospital.
A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m., Sunday, August 23, 2009 in the chapel of Hillside Funeral Service with David Linton and Curtis White officiating. Burial will follow in the Respass Family Cemetery. Lindsey Cahoon, Dallas Linton, Dennis Respass, Jesse Respass, Matt Respass, Mike Swanner, Paul Woolard, and Wayne Woolard will serve as pallbearers. Chris Bunn, Hubert Carrow, Roger Jefferson, JC Morgan, Harold Ormond, Jr., Hilton Reason, and Jack Wallace will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Hillside Funeral Service, 4500 Highway 264 East, Washington, NC.
Mr. Respass was born July 6, 1937 in Washington County to Edgar Langley and Sarah Jane Phelps Respass. Earl retired from the Beaufort County School system. After retiring he farmed but became best known as the handy man around Bath helping all of the citizens with a variety of needs. Mr. Respass sold collards, corn and watermelons along the road and used the honor system for payment leaving a glass jar on his trailer. On June 20, 2009 he celebrated his 50th wedding anniversary with the love of his life, Mary Burgess Respass and many friends and family at the Bath Ruritan Building.
In addition to his wife he is survived by two daughters, Teresa R. Rose and husband Scott of Pinetown and Tammy Respass Modlin of Bath; one son, Thomas Langley Respass and wife Laurie of Bath; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by five brothers; Albert, Hughes, Leon, Harry and Pat Respass; and one sister, Alice Marie Respass Wilson.
