Mrs. Penny Wheeler Jennings, age 51, a resident of 502 Wharton Street, Washington, NC died Saturday August 22, 2009 at her home.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday August 26, 2009 at Snowd Branch Church of God officiate by Rev. Jerry Waters, Rev. Jimmy Holland and Rev. Gary Harper. Burial will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Cedarwood Cemetery in Weldon, NC officiated by Rev. Charles Davis, Jr.
Mrs. Penny was born in Halifax County on May 24, 1958 daughter of Franklin “Frank” Delano Wheeler and Joan Harlow Wheeler. She was a 1976 graduate of Weldon High School and continued her education at Halifax Community College where she earned her Associates of Science in Nursing. Mrs. Penny worked as a RN at Pitt County Memorial Hospital for sixteen years. She married David Wilson Jennings on September 6, 1981 who survives. Mrs. Penny was a member of Snowd Branch Church of God.
Mrs. Penny is survived by her husband: David of the home; three children: Leann Grey Jennings, David “Andrew” Jennings and Melissa Loraine Jennings all of the home; her parents: Franklin D. “Frank” and Joan H. Wheeler of Weldon; a sister: Peggy Wheeler Bulluck and her husband Bruce of Nashville, NC; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Willie and Helen Grainger Jennings of Elizabeth City; three nieces: Rachel White and Bethanie White both of Elizabeth City and Carla Freeman Moore of Castalia, NC and three great nieces: Makaleigh Wynn Moore, Ryne Harlow Moore and Taylor-Jane O’Neil Moore of Castalia, NC.
The family will receive friends 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday August 25, 2009 at Paul Funeral Home of Washington and at other times at the home.
Flowers are welcomed or the family kindly asks that any memorial contributions be made to the Penny Jennings Memorial Fund, First South Bank, P.O. Box 2047, Washington, NC 27889. This fund will assist in Mrs. Penny’s children’s educational needs.
