Mr. Ellis B. Sawyer, Sr., age 95, of Washington died August 25, 2009 at Beaufort County Medical Center.
A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, August 28 at Paul Funeral Home of Washington with Bruce Watson and Owen Emanuel officiating. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. Mike Alligood, Kenneth Moore, Donald Smith, Sam Marsh, Charles Mason and Jack Clayton will serve as pallbearers.
Mr. Sawyer was born on November 28, 1913 in Pamlico County and was the son of the late William Edward Sawyer and Arminta Everette Sawyer. He was a member of the Lowland Church of Christ and attended the First Church of Christ in Washington.
He was preceded in death by his wives Mildred Flynn Sawyer and Ruby Jones Sawyer, sisters Iris Ireland and Myra Jarvis of Washington and brother Booth Sawyer of Lowland.
Mr. Sawyer is survived by his son, Ellis B. Sawyer, Jr. and wife Melinda of Washington, daughter, Elaine Sawyer Stump and husband Don of Burke, Va. and granddaughter Anna Flynn Stump of Houston, TX.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 27 from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. at the home located at 525 E. 10th Street, Washington. Mr. Sawyer will lie in state at Paul Funeral Home of Washington on Thursday during the visitation time from 6 p.m.-8 p.m.
