Coach Keith Boyd is hoping his team can rebound from last week’s loss in a hurry. The Northside Panthers, which fell 48-12 to Creswell last week, play host to the Pamlico Hurricanes tonight.
The Northside defense had trouble containing the explosive Creswell offense, which finished with just under 500 yards of offense.
Dee Martin led Northside with 80 yards rushing last week, while Isaiah McCullor threw for over 100 yards and ran for 70 more.
The Panthers (0-1) will look to end a nine-game skid that dates back to last year.
"We're young so I hope we just get better and better," Boyd said.
Pamlico (0-1) suffered a 28-20 loss last week to an East Carteret team that went winless one year ago.
Hurricane quarterback Worth Cowell ran for 53 yards on nine carries and a touchdown, while completing 3 of 10 passes for 73 yards and another score. However, Cowell was injured in the third quarter and didn’t return.
Cowell’s replacement, Tayquan Jones, completed both of his pass attempts, which were good for 35 yards. Jones also ran for 35 yards on seven carries.
Trevon Boone ran for 51 yards and a touchdown. Rakeem Best led all receivers with two catches for 67 yards and a score.
"They will throw it a lot so we'll have to be prepared for that," Boyd said about the Hurricanes. "They're kind of like we are, which is young. As long as we tackle better (than last week), it should be a good game."
The game kicks off at 7:30 p.m.
