Mr. Colton Gene Boyd, age 74, a resident of 110 Lancaster Lane, Winchester, Washington, died Thursday, August 27, 2009 at University Health Systems Inpatient Hospice in Greenville.
Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday, August 31, 2009 at the First Free Will Baptist Church in Washington, conducted by Rev. Ken Cash and Marty Alligood. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery, Washington.
The following will serve as active pallbearers: Josh Schmidt, Jesse Boyd, Frank Lynch, David Shaw, Roscoe Spencer and Larry Dickie. Members of the Carolina Dirt Devils Girls Softball Team will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Mr. Boyd was born in Beaufort County on February 28, 1935. He was the son of the late Ernest Alton Boyd and Marthenia “Coon” Waters Boyd. Mr. Boyd retired from Safeway Foods in Washington, D.C. in 1983. He owned his own lawn maintenance business for a short time. Mr. Boyd loved to fish and hunt when his health permitted. He was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church in Washington.
Mr. Boyd was married to the former Dollie Garris, who survives.
Surviving with his wife are two children, Richard Boyd and his wife, Melanie of Alexandria, Va., Debra Lynch and her husband, Frank of Woodbridge, Va.; step daughter, Stacey Wright and her husband, Simon of Washington; six grandchildren, Josh Schmidt, Cari Schmidt, Jesse Boyd, Lacy Tose’, Haley Wright, and Will Wright; and two sisters, Ester Malmfeldt and husband, Gordon of Carolina Shores, N.C., Arlene Morin and husband, Roland of Calabash, N.C.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, August 30, 2009 at Paul Funeral Home, Washington and other times at the home, 110 Lancaster Lane, Winchester, Washington.
