Mr. Murphy Jackson Hopkins, Sr., age 83, a resident of 200 Rattlesnake Ave., Pamlico Beach, died Sunday August 30, 2009 at Beaufort County Medical Center.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday September 1, 2009 at Paul Funeral Home of Belhaven officiated by Rev. Dean Fulford, Jr. Burial will follow at Pamlico Beach Community Cemetery at Ryder Hill. Ronnie Hopkins, Dwayne Hopkins, George Hopkins, Robbie Hopkins, Steve Hopkins, Nicky Hopkins will serve as active pallbearers. Chris Hopkins, Brian Hopkins, McKinley Foster, Joseph Foster, Shawn Hopkins, Ben Hopkins, Eddie Foster and Colby Hopkins will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Mr. Hopkins was born on September 18, 1925 to the late Fred Hopkins and Bertha Foster Hopkins. He was married to Margaret Daniels Hopkins, who preceded him in death on December 20, 2003. Mr. Hopkins owned and operated Hopkins Seafood Company for a number of years. He was a member of Wade’s Point Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Mr. Hopkins is survived by one son: Murphy Hopkins Jr. and wife Carolyn of Pamlico Beach, a brother: Lee Medford Hopkins and wife Julia of Pamlico Beach, a sister: Virginia Hopkins Sawyer of Pamlico Beach, two daughters-in-law: Sally Hopkins Farries and Tina Hopkins of Pamlico Beach, twelve grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Hopkins was preceded in death by two sons: James Robert Hopkins and Levi Paul Hopkins.
The family received friends Monday August 31, 2009 from 7 p.m.-9 p.m. at Paul Funeral Home of Belhaven and other times at the home of George Murphy Hopkins, 428 Wright’s Creek Road.
