Mr. Lonnie Ray “Mr. Lonnie” Davidson, age 62, of Washington died September 6, 2009 at Beaufort County Medical Center.
A memorial service will be held at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, September 9, 2009 in the chapel of Hillside Funeral Service.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until the service hour on Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at Hillside Funeral Service, 4500 Highway 264 East, Washington, NC 27889 and other times at the home of his sister-in-law Amelia Davidson, 420 McNair Street, Washington, NC.
Lonnie was born March 13, 1947 in Beaufort County. He was the son of the late Harvey Lee and Cassie Harrington Davidson. On July 2, 1978 he married Jackie Wingate Davidson, who preceded him in death on May 11, 2009. Lonnie retired from National Spinning in 1997 with 36 years of service and was employed with Hillside Funeral Service after his retirement. He was a member of West End Baptist Church, The Royal Order of the Moose of Washington, and played softball for National Spinning. Lonnie was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He played Santa Claus at Washington Square Mall and was everyone’s favorite Santa. He had a great love for children and especially his grandson, Bryson.
Survivors include his daughter, Melissa Davidson and fiancé Brian Waters of Pinetown, NC; his grandson, Bryson Lee Thomas of Pinetown, NC; two sisters, Stella Giesau of Ontonagon, Michigan, and Ruby Mason and husband, Carl of Blounts Creek, NC; two brothers, Edward Davidson and wife Shirley of Hillsborough, NC, and Thelbert Davidson and wife Helen of Trenton, NC; and sister-in-law Amelia Davidson of Washington; several nieces and nephew; and Joi Stewart and Lisa Melisauskas, who were like daughters.
He was also preceded in death by one sister, Donnie Davidson and one brother, William Davidson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lonnie Davidson Memorial Fund, 4500 Highway 264 East, Washington, NC 27889.
