Mr. Gary Lee Tomasulo

Gary Lee Tomasulo, age 62, a resident of Washington died Monday September 7, 2009 in a tragic accident.
A Mass of Resurrection will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, September 11, 2009 at Mother of Mercy Catholic Church with Father M. Arturo Cabra officiating. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, September 10, 2009 at Hillside Funeral Service, 4500 Highway 264 East, Washington, NC.
Gary was born in Wayne County, Michigan on March 4, 1947 to Joseph and Leona Tomasulo. He moved to Brooklyn, New York at age six and lived there until he enlisted in the United States Navy in 1966. During his service in the Navy he served onboard the USS Boxer. He was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1968. 
On February 22, 1969 he married Marie, his life-long love. Gary and Marie moved to Long Island, New York in 1973 where they raised their three children. Gary was active in the community coaching Little League baseball, football, and numerous other activities.
For more than 25 years Gary was a New York City Corrections Officer/Captain. He served as the Secretary of the NYC Corrections Captains’ Officer Union retiring in 2000. 
Gary had a passion for his family, community, and country. In 2001, he moved to Washington where he was an active businessman and city leader. Gary served as the President of the Historic Downtown Washington Merchants Association and pursued his dream of being a small business owner by opening La Bella Pizzeria. Gary had a passion and vision for Downtown Washington. He believed that Downtown Washington could be a thriving business and tourist area and worked tirelessly to implement it.
In addition to his father, Gary is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Marie; his children Gary Jr. and his wife Kelli of Belmont, Massachusetts, Jeffery and his wife Randi of West Orange, New Jersey, and Jaime Albano and her husband Paul of Monroe, New York; grandchildren Paul and Landon Albano, Gary III, Mallory, Colin, Gracie, and Lyla Tomasulo. 
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Gary Tomasulo Downtown Washington Playground Fund, 107 Island Lane, Washington, NC 27889.
