MITS returns downtown|Beaufort County Idol competition seeking three more finalists

Music in the Streets returns to downtown Washington tonight from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., including another Beaufort County Idol competition.
Performers for tonight’s Music in the Streets include Deacon Jones and other guitarists from Guitars Unlimited in Greenville, musician Jordan Clark from Greenville, Dustin Hollis, a mandolin player from Williamston, the Men of Faith gospel group, the Beaufort County Traditional Music Association, which organizes a jam session during the event and the Music in the Streets shaggers, who dance to music provided by radio personality Alan Vick.
Music in the Streets also features Down East Rods &Classics’ display of muscle cars, hot rods and other vehicles.
Beaufort County Idol also returns to downtown Washington tonight. Three finalists for this year’s Beaufort County Idol finale will be selected.
Beaufort County Idol is staged in front of the former city hall on North Market Street. Some people refer to that building as the DeMille Building.
Finalists from the previous Beaufort County Idol competitions this year are Jessica Smith, Destiny Tyson, Teresa Prichard, Joseph Conner, Lindsey Grissom, Mackenzie Roberts, Sarah Hardison, Travis Pierce, Jonah Taylor, McKenna Cox, Kim Allen, Molly Hardison, Elizabeth Nuckols, Amanda Rose and Renee Stalls.
The Beaufort County Idol finale is set for Oct. 31 at the Turnage Theater, with the winner performing as the opening act on Nov. 7 when then Idol winner opens up for Tim Waters, who grew up in Beaufort County and was a contestant on the “Nashville Star” TV program.
Music in the Streets is organized by the Historic Downtown Washington Merchants Association. After this Friday’s event, the remaining Music in the Streets date for this year is Oct. 16.
Hamburgers, hot dogs and soft drinks will be available from street vendors. Downtown restaurants also are ready to serve the Music in the Streets crowd.
