Mr. James Zachariah Edwards, Sr., age 82, a former resident of 1702 North Market Street, Washington, died Thursday, September 17, 2009 at Britthaven of Washington.
A memorial service will be held 4 p.m. Sunday, September 20, 2009 at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1732 N. Market Street, Washington conducted by Tony Congleton.
Mr. Edwards was born in Craven County on November 9, 1926. He was the son of the late William B. Edwards and Babe Toler Edwards. Mr. Edwards served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked at Washington Post Office for 38 years and retired at age 55 in 1982 as a rural mail carrier. Mr. Edwards was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness.
On November 2, 1946, Mr. Edwards married the former Stella Marie “Squeaky” Woolard, who survives.
Surviving with his wife are two sons, James Z. Edwards, Jr. and his wife, Linda Holliman of Boiling Springs, S.C., David L. Edwards and his wife, Carol Woolard of Washington; two daughters, Karen J. Edwards and her husband, Dale Harris of Indianapolis, IN, Brenda E. Bowen and her husband, Scott Bowen of Hookerton, N.C.; a sister, Barbara Scott of Washington; eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren
In addition to his parents, Mr. Edwards was preceded in death by a brother, Alpha Edwards.
The family will receive friends at the home, 1702 North Market Street, Washington.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1732 N. Market Street, Washington, NC 27889.
