Copper catches first past in two seasons in Chiefs’ loss to Eagles|Smith scores her first college goal

Terrance Copper made his first reception as a member of the Kansas City Chiefs, coming in Sunday’s 34-14 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Copper, a former standout at Washington High School and East Carolina, earned the start and had one catch for 8 yards. The catch, coming on a 4th-and-7, set up Kansas City’s second touchdown late in the fourth quarter.
The catch by Copper, in his sixth season in the NFL, was his first since the 2007 season when he was member of the New Orleans Saints. His previous reception came in a loss to the Chicago Bears in the NFC Championship Game on Dec. 30, 2007.

MARISSA SMITH
Marissa Smith notched the first goal of her college career.
Smith, a former standout at Washington High School, earned her first collegiate start in Sunday’s 8-0 win over Mary Baldwin College. The freshman forward made the most of it, blasting in a goal at the 18:07 mark of the first half, putting the Monarchs up 2-0.
It was also Smith’s first shot on goal.
The Monarchs (5-5) play host to Averett University on Saturday.
JEANNA BUCK
Jeanna Buck, a former standout at Washington High School, attempted one shot for the Peace Pacers in Sunday’s 7-1 loss to Piedmont College.
Buck has played in all seven games for the Peace soccer team this season. The freshman defender/midfielder has started in five of those games. She has five shots, including three shots on goal, this year.
Peace (0-7) plays host to Mary Baldwin College on Saturday.

Stephen Cullop, a former standout at Terra Ceia, has played in three games for the Waldorf Warriors soccer team.
The freshman goalie has three saves to his credit.
The Warriors (4-7) play at Grand View University (Des Moines, IA) on Wednesday.

Danielya Whitney has nine kills and two digs for Pitt Community College.
Whitney, a former standout at Southside High School, is a freshman middle blocker for the Bulldogs.
Pitt (10-6) play host to Brunswick Community College on Oct. 5.
COLLEGE FOOTBALL
C.J. WILSON
C.J. Wilson, the Conference USA Preseason Defensive Player of the Year, earned his first sack of the season. The East Carolina defensive end recorded the sack in Saturday’s 19-14 win over the UCF Knights.
Wilson, a former star at Northside High School, finished with 1.5 sacks for 11 yards in loss. The senior also had two tackles and two quarterback hurries.
He has 14.5 tackles, including 3.5 tackles-for-loss (14 yards), 1.5 sacks for 11 yards in loss, three quarterback hurries and one fumble recovery this season.
Wilson has 23 sacks, 38.5 tackles-for-loss, 24 quarterback hurries and 148 tackles in his career.
The Pirates (2-2, 1-0 C-USA) play at Marshall in a noon game Saturday.
TRAVIS DANIELS
Travis Daniels ran for a pair of long touchdowns to lead UNC-Pembroke to a 43-3 win over Lane on Saturday.
Daniels scored on runs of 36 and 31 yards in the win.
The former Washington Pam Pack star scampered for 124 yards on 11 carries (11.3 average).
For the season, Daniels has rushed for 562 yards and five scores on 74 carries (7.6 average). He also has six catches for 70 yards.
The Braves (4-1) play host to Webber International in a 2 p.m. game Saturday.
JAMONT JONES
Jamont Jones had three kickoff returns for 65 yards (21.7 average) for the Bears in Lenoir-Rhyne’s 14-9 loss to Brevard on Saturday.
The former Washington Pam Pack star also had two tackles, including half a tackle for loss.
Jones, a special teams standout, has 11 kickoff returns for 335 yards (30.5 average), which includes a 94-yard return for a score, and three punt returns for 41 yards (13.7 average). The starting defensive back also has one interception, 14 tackles and one blocked kick.
The Bears (3-2) play at Tusculum in a 7 p.m. game Saturday.
GREG PALMER
Greg Palmer, a former star at Northside High School, had seven tackles for Chowan in Saturday’s 45-27 loss to Virginia Union City.
For the season, the senior co-captain has 29 tackles, four tackles-for-loss, two sacks (17-yards in loss) and one fumble recovery.
The Hawks (0-5) play host to Fayetteville State in a 6 p.m. game Saturday.
TERRY GRIFFIN
Terry Griffin, a former standout at Roanoke High School, had three tackles for Elizabeth City in Saturday’s 29-27 win over Saint Augustine’s. He also had half a tackle for loss, and a quarterback hurry.
For the season, the junior defensive tackle has 20 tackles, including 3.5 tackles-for-loss, 1.5 sacks and a quarterback hurry.
The Vikings (4-1) play at Virginia State in a 1 p.m. game Saturday.
CHASE TRIPP
Chase Tripp didn’t play for Winston-Salem in Saturday’s 27-10 loss to South Carolina State.
The freshman defensive lineman, a former standout with the Washington Pam Pack, has one tackle this season.
The Rams (0-4) play at Howard in a 1 p.m. game Saturday.
WILLIAM HUNT
William Hunt, a former star at Plymouth High School, did not play in Fayetteville State’s 25-20 loss to Virginia State on Saturday.
The freshman defensive tackle has four tackles on the season.
The Broncos (2-3) play at Chowan in a 6 p.m. game Saturday.
BRYAN HAYWOOD
Bryan Haywood, a former star at Southside High School, and his North Carolina Wesleyan Bishops had the weekend off.
For the season, Haywood has 244 yards rushing on 41 carries (5.95.6 average) and two touchdowns. The senior also has four receptions for 31 yards and one kickoff return for 24 yards.
Wesleyan (1-2) returns to action Oct. 3 at home against Ferrum College.
KENNETH HYMAN
Kenneth Hyman, a former star at Roanoke High School, had four tackles for the Quakers in Guilford’s 31-6 loss to Hampden-Sydney on Saturday.
For the season, the sophomore cornerback has six tackles and four pass breakups.
The Quakers (0-4) play host to Southern Virginia in a 7 p.m. game Friday.
JAMEL MOORE
Jamel Moore, a former standout at Williamston High School, had two carries for minus-8 yards in Livingstone’s 10-0 loss to Lincoln University on Saturday. The freshman also had one catch for 3 yards.
For the year, Moore has six kickoff returns for 181 yards (30.2 average), eight receptions for 116 yards and 19 rushes for 5 yards.
