Loretta Flynn-Ford, age 70, a resident of 889 Neck B Road, Pantego, died Saturday, October 3, 2009 at her home. Loretta, affectionately called Honey, died peacefully, almost in her sleep, with several of her family members including her primary caregiver and loving sister, Bernell, when she died.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, October 8, 2009 at Kingdom Hall of Jehovahs Witnesses, 25319 Highway 264 East, Pantego, NC.
Loretta was born in Pantego on August 9, 1939, the fifth of ten children, to Everette and Mary Ann Flynn.
Loretta was in declining health for the last several years and often surprised her family and many of the health professionals by her constant and repeated recoveries from several serious illnesses.
Honey lived in New York for most of her adult life. She had several jobs but worked for Con Edison, an electric utility company, for more than 20 years. She left Con Ed when her health began to decline and eventually moved back to Pantego with her husband Rudy. They settled back up Neck, in a house on the same property where she was born. She spent her last few months, weeks, and days as her health continued to decline, completely surrounded by numerous family members and friends. At the time of her passing, and for many years, she was very much aware of the intense love that so many people felt for her. During her life, in all the places that she lived, everyone was always welcomed to her home and she was most content when her home was filled with various people laughing and enjoying her wonderful meals. She loved to cook for family and friends. She loved having children around and had special, loving, knick names for dozens of her nieces and nephews. She adored family pictures and the walls in her home were covered with them. She gave so much love to so many as evidenced by a multitude who returned such love.
Loretta spent over 30 years of her life as a dedicated servant of Jehovah, the religion she converted to many years ago while living in New York. She ministered to and studied with so many in her quest to serve Jehovah. Her home is filled with so many Bibles and other Witness materials that she used and lived by for the last years of an incredible love-filled life!
She was married for 45 years to her loving husband Rudy, whom she lovingly called Wonderful!
In addition to her husband Rudy she is survived by her step-daughter Janet Giles and three grandchildren. She also has nine brothers and sisters, Everett Flynn (Mary Ella) of Alaska, Rosa Bernell Reddick (Leroy), Roberta Slade (Walter), and Walter Flynn (Melva) all of Pantego, Gene Flynn of Florida, Robert Flynn (Sandra) of Delaware, Matricia Teasie Moore of New York, Marian Dot Gadsden (Joe) of Delaware, and Harry Buddy Flynn of Georgia. She is also survived by one remaining Aunt, Bessie Canady! She also has dozens of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, too many to mention!
The family would also like to express their sincere appreciation to our Sister Rosa Bernell Reddick who was at Honeys side every day, without fail, for the last several months of Honeys life! Other than her husband Rudy, Bernell would be the first person that Honey saw in the morning, and one of the last people that she saw at night!
We also want to thank the staff of Community Home Care and Hospice for their professional and caring attitude throughout Lorettas several months of sickness. We also want to send the same sentiments to the various dialysis units and ambulatory transports that were so attentive and responsive to her and the families every concern.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her memory to the Belhaven Congregation of Jehovahs Witnesses, PO Box 434, Belhaven, NC 27810.
