Charity Watson seemingly hasn’t skipped a beat.
After a stellar high school career at Washington High School, where she was the four-time WDN Pitcher of the Year, Watson is off to a terrific start in her college career. Playing for the Pitt Community College Bulldogs, Watson tossed a pair of gems in two victories at the Louisburg Tournament on Saturday.
The freshman pitched a complete game, striking out 10 and walking one in a 1-0 victory over Elon University.
Tiffany Frey, a former standout at Jamesville High School, scored the game-winning run. Frey singled in the sixth and eventually scored on another Pitt hit.
In her second appearance of the day, Watson tossed another complete game. She fanned 13 batters in a 1-0 win over Chowan.
Next up for PCC is a trip to Florence, S.C., Oct. 17-18 for a junior college showcase event. The Bulldogs will then play at East Carolina University Oct. 30.
Knox comes up big
Meredith Knox, a previous two-time WDN Female Athlete of the Year, helped lead her Anderson Trojans to the 19TH Annual Milligan College Fall Classic championship.
Anderson won four out of five games played in the tournament, including a 3-2 victory over Milligan in the championship game.
Knox, a former standout at Washington High School, went 3-for-3 in the championship game.
Johnson playing at Pfeiffer
Brinkley Johnson, a former standout at Pungo, is playing softball at Pfeiffer University.
The freshman, an NCISAA all-state pitcher, is a pitcher and second baseman for the Falcons.
She had one at bat in last weekend’s tournament at Appalachian State, smacking a single and driving in a run.
Preiffer went 2-2 in the tournament.
