Mr. Jim Henry Cowan, 78, of 203 Martin Ave., Williamston, died Thursday, Oct. 8, 2009, at Martin General Hospital.
A funeral will be conducted in the chapel of Biggs Funeral Home today at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Tom Goebel officiating. Burial will follow in Martin Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Cowan was born in Martin County on June 1, 1931. He was the son of Danie Cowan and Zella Whitehurst Cowan. On Sept. 27, 1957, he married Mavis Weathersby Cowan, who died April 25, 2007. He worked as a barber for 42 years before his retirement. He was a member of Vernon United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Ricky Cowan and wife Penny and Wade Cowan and wife Ray Reneice, all of Williamston; one daughter, Jimi Lynne Modlin and husband Michael of Jamesville; one sister, Patty Price of Robersonville; one brother, Linward Cowan of Robersonville; and six grandchildren, Taylor Cowan, Jacob Cowan, Zach Cowan, Gray Cowan, Bryce Modlin and Michaela Modlin.
