Mamie Clyde Lilley Gurganus, 95, of 2036 Hollow Pond Rd., Williamston died Wednesday October 21, 2009 at Britthaven of Washington. She was born in Martin County on November 19, 1913 to the late William Jesse and Penny Corey Gurganus. Mrs. Gurganus was married to Aubrey Harold Gurganus on December 3, 1935. He predeceased her in June of 1966. She was also predeceased by three brothers; Tom, Grover and Marion Lilley. Mamie Clyde was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church where she was a choir member. She started the Choir Robe Fund at the church and was very involved with the Message of Easter.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Sunday October 25, 2009 at Piney Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Drake, Rev. David Anderson and Rev. Billy Ray Askew officiating. Burial will follow in Tice Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday October 24, 2009 from 7-9 p.m. at the Piney Grove Fellowship Hall and at other times from the home.
Survivors include two sons; D. Harold Gurganus and wife Betsy of Williamston, NC and C. Mitch Gurganus of Highland, NC; six grandchildren, David Gurganus and wife Joanna, Tracy Gurganus and wife Michel all of Jamesville, NC, Penny Askew and husband Billy Ray of Pinetown, NC, Tom Gurganus and wife Vicky and Michele Lewis and husband Paul all of Durham, NC, Seth Wilson and wife Marjorie of Highland, NC; twelve great grandchildren; Kelsey, Ethan, Aubrey, Kira, Olivia and Zachary Gurganus, Ruthie and William Jesse Askew, Rachel and Jacob Lewis, Ashland and Wyatt Wilson.
