Washington is hoping to gain some momentum over the final three weeks of the regular season.
Coming off a 7-3 win over White Oak, which squared the Pam Packs overall (4-4) and conference (2-2) marks, Washington will look to stay near the top of the Coastal Conference standings.
The Pack, currently tied with two other teams for third in the conference, plays its final away game of the regular season at D.H. Conley (0-8, 0-4) tonight. Washington will then close out the season with home games against South Central (5-3, 2-2) and West Carteret (5-3, 1-3).
Were hoping to get on a roll, Washington coach Sport Sawyer said. Defensively, weve been pretty strong all year and theyre getting better each week.
Offensively, Ive coached teams where weve peaked in the middle of the season. We are far from peaking now. We cant do anything but get better. Hopefully, we can start putting some points on the board.
The Vikings may be just what the sputtering Pam Pack offense needs. Washington is averaging just 14.6 points per game this season, scoring 56 points (7, 10, 12, 13 and 14 points) over the last five games.
The D.H. Conley defense is surrendering 40.4 points per game.
I know they are hungry to get a win, Sawyer said of the Vikings. I think it will be game.
Sophomore quarterback Trey Harris has clicked on 24 of 58 passes (41.4 percent) for 371 yards, tossing four touchdown passes and five interceptions.
His favorite target has been senior Tony Turnage, who has 11 receptions for 198 yards and three scores.
Washingtons defense (the team allows 14.4 points a game) has been instrumental in the teams success this year. Tonight it faces a Conley team that is averaging just 8 points a game.
Ronnie Woolard has been the leader of the Pam Pack defense. The senior linebacker leads the team in tackles (80) and fumble recoveries (5), and is second with four sacks.
Cole Hartley has 60 tackles, Marquin Hill 59 and Amiar Johnson 49. Johnson leads the team with five sacks, while Turnages four interceptions lead the team.
Washington holds a 13-9-1 lead over Conley in the series, which includes last years 42-6 victory.
A win will give Sawyer his 37th coaching win at Washington, which would tie Dick Cherry for third on the all-time victory list (behind J.G. Choppy Wagners 154 wins and Brian Paschals 40 wins).
The game kicks off at 7 p.m.
