WILSON — Beth Batchelor already knew she was heading to the N.C. High School Athletic Association Class 3-A state tennis tournament after winning twice Friday. After another win Saturday in the Eastern Regional tournament at the Barton College tennis courts, Batchelor now knows she’ll head to Burlington as a No. 3 seed.
The Washington Pam Pack junior, the team’s No. 1 singles player all season, earned third place with a 0-6, 6-2, 6-2 win over South Brunswick’s Summer Phillips.
“The competition is going to be tough at state, but I’m excited,” Batchelor said. “It will be a good experience. I’m just going to have fun and try my best.”
Batchelor had lost earlier Saturday in the semifinals. Northern Nash freshman Randi Price, the No. 2 seed, took a 6-0, 6-3 win over Batchelor.
Wilson Fike’s Mary-Katherine Prince, the top seed, won her fourth regional championship with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Price.
Batchelor, the No. 3 seed, beat South Central’s Molly Hostetler 6-2, 6-1 in the first round and then defeated Charles B. Aycock’s Ashley Howell 6-4, 6-2 in the second round on Friday.
Batchelor will play in the 3-A state tournament Friday at the Burlington Parks and Recreation Tennis Center.
