Mrs. Frances Bates Boyd, age 88, a resident of 2484 Gray Road, Chocowinity, died Sunday, October 25, 2009, at Britthaven of Washington.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 28, 2009, at Paul Funeral Home of Washington, officiated by Owen Arthur. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. Russell Tyson, Herman Tyson, Darren Woolard, Ira Whealton, Henry Harding and Claud Ambrose Jr. will serve as pallbearers.
Mrs. Boyd was born in Pitt County on December 22, 1920, daughter of the late James Oliver Boyd and Jennie Foster Angel Boyd. She attended school in Grimesland and worked for many years as a sales clerk at McClellan’s in Washington. Mrs. Boyd retired after working at National Spinning Company. She attended Memorial Free Will Baptist Church.
Mrs. Boyd is survived by three sisters: Lizzie Arnold of Lumberton, NC, Lucinda Smith of Washington, NC and Beatrice Ambrose of Williamston, NC a stepson: Stacey Boyd and wife Wanda of Chocowinity,NC and two stepgrandchildren: Eric and Cody Boyd of Chocowinity, NC.
In addition to her mother and father, Mrs. Boyd is preceded in death by husbands Robert Lee Bates and Lewis Allen Boyd Jr., three brothers: Willie Boyd, Jesse Boyd and W. H. Boyd, who died as an infant and two sisters: Ruby Moore and Alberta Moore.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 27, 2009, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Paul Funeral Home of Washington and other times at her home located at 2484 Gray Road, Chocowinity, NC 27817.
