The Washington soccer team got everything it could ask for on Tuesday as it picked up an explosive 6-2 win over Senior Night over South Central in front of large home crowd that braved the intermittent rain to support the Pam Pack.
The win over the Coastal Conference rival Falcons not only boosted Washington’s record up to 10-10, but kept its playoff dreams alive as well.
“It kept us alive in the playoff hunt, so it was a big win for us,” Pam Pack coach Jimmy Kozuch said. “We need to win the next two games to get into the playoffs, at least that’s what we think. “
Washington’s offense exploded for six goals against South Central, but could have very easily doubled its output as several shots hit off the post or were blocked by sensational efforts by the Falcons.
Hilton O’Neal got Washington on the board early as he received the ball on the right wing then proceeded to cross over his defender and boot a low-fyling ball into the back, left portion of the net.
Despite a slew of shots on goal by the Pack, the score would remain 1-0 heading into halftime.
During the break, Washington honored seniors Steven Worsley, Jimmy Hardison, Nick Bundy, George Rodman, Neil Krajewski, Hernan Perez and Bladimir Romero, who has over 50 goals as a member of the Pam Pack.
Kozuch, who is in his fourth year with the Pam Pack, said his was very attached to this year’s senior class.
“These guys have a been a lot of fun, they are the only guys that I have had my entire time here,” Kozuch said. “They work really, really hard and they have just improved so much. I have tons of respect for them and I love these guys.”
When play resumed Krajewski helped pad the Pack’s lead when he netted a goal less than four minutes into the second half to make it 2-0. From that point on it was all Pam Pack.
Washington increased its lead to 3-0 when Edwin Garcia knocked in a goal from seven-feet out less then four minutes after Krajewski’s goal.
Perez made his Senior Night a special one when he added the Pam Pack’s fourth goal.
With Perez’s goal, everybody on the Pam Pack had scored this season.
Lee Hodges increased Washington’s lead to 5-0 with a header.
The Falcons responded with two quick goals of their own, but it was not enough to threaten Washington.
The Pam Pack put the finishing touches on the game when Perez netted his second goal of the night.
Washington will be back in action on Thursday when it faces West Craven on the road.
