BLOUNTS CREEK — Mr. William Earl Lewis, Sr., age 68, a resident of 300 Herring Run Road, Blounts Creek, died Thursday, October 29, 2009 at Pitt County Memorial Hospital.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, November 2, 2009 in the chapel of Hillside Funeral Service with Pastor David Linton officiating. Burial will follow at Warren Memorial Cemetery. Jesse Dixon, CO Evans, Larry Haddock, Marion Jochum, Dewey Jones and Curtis Lewis will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 PM, Sunday, November 1, 2009 at Hillside Funeral Service, 4500 Highway 264 East, Washington, NC.
Mr. Lewis was born in Beaufort County on October 10, 1941 to the late Luther Gaston Lewis and Mary Jane Powell who survives. William was a member of Emmanuel Free Will Baptist Church. He owned and operated William E. Lewis Logging and Trucking Co. and had served in the NC National Guard.
He is survived by two sons, William Earl Lewis, Jr. and Jason L. Lewis both of Blounts Creek; his mother Mary Jane Lewis; four sisters, Minnie Lewis Arelano of Plymouth, Betty L. Wiley of Ernul, Faye L. Hancock of Pilot Mountain and Martha L. Whitford of Vanceboro; four brothers, Charlie P. Lewis of New Mexico, David Lewis of Greenville, Glen Lewis of New Bern and Gary Lewis of Vanceboro; and two grandchildren, Josh and Shelbey Lewis. He is also survived by his former wife, Betsy Harding Lewis.
