Eleanor Ruth Wheeler Swindell, 76, of 1859 N.C. Highway 45, Swan Quarter, died Wednesday, November 11, 2009, at Pungo District Hospital in Belhaven.
Born in Virginia, December 22, 1932, she was the daughter of the late William W. and Rosa Belle Snoddy Wheeler. She was married to Edmond Wade Swindell who preceded her in death. She worked as a secretary with the Soil Conservation office for 22 years and prepared income tax forms from her home for many years. She was a member of the Swan Quarter Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the family plot in Soule Cemetery. Steve Bryan will officiate.
Surviving are four sons, William Edmond Swindell of the Ponzer community, Richard Wade Swindell and wife, Betty P. of Williamston, Anthony Haven Swindell and wife, Linda and Christopher Otis Swindell and wife, Clea of Swan Quarter; a daughter, Mary Amelia Midyette of the Sladesville Community and her friend, Al Gurganus; three brothers, William W. Wheeler, Jr. and Walter Fletcher “Buddy” Wheeler of Manteo and Aubrey Wheeler of Swan Quarter; six sisters, Ella Mae Lupton of Myrtle Beach, SC, Dorothy W. Cahoon of Manteo, Marjorie W. Alexander of Asheville, Evelyn W. Wise, Joyce W. Carawan and Marian W. Carawan all of Swan Quarter; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Alice Jean W. O’Neal and Doris W. Jernigan.
