Mrs. Mary Louise Manning Gurkin, 92, a resident of 1022 Maple Grove Church Road, Williamston, died Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009, at Martin General Hospital.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Maple Grove Christian Church, Farm Life community, with Jay Hardison and Richard Smartnick officiating. Burial will follow in Tice Cemetery.
Mrs. Gurkin, a retired homemaker, was born in Martin County on Jan. 10, 1918. She was the daughter of the late Herbert and Mollie Whitley Manning. She was a member of Maple Grove Christian Church. She married Raymond Gurkin, who died in 1987.
Survivors include a daughter, Crissie Gurkin Hardison and husband, William R. Hardison, of Williamston; a granddaughter, Holly Hardison Revels and husband, Brad Revels, of Raleigh; two great-grandchildren, Lily Gray Revels and James William Revels of Raleigh; a daughter-in-law, Jean Gurkin of Chocowinity; a stepgranddaughter, Olivia Mills-Dorrell and husband, James Phillip, of Wilmington; two brothers, Herbert Leslie Manning of Kinston and William N. Pinky Manning of Williamston; and two sisters, Margaret Hardison and Melba Hardison, both of Williamston.
She was preceded in death by a son, James Herbert Foggy Gurkin, and four sisters, Eva Gray Askew of Jamesville and Mamie Clyde Griffin, Mittie Brown and Elizabeth Jackson, all of Williamston.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today at Maple Grove Christian Church and other times at the home.
