Mr. James Pressley Gurganus, 82, of Plymouth died Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at his residence.
Born June 16, 1927 in Johnston County he was the son of the late James Elwood Gurganus and Flossie Phillips Gurganus and was preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley Roberson Gurganus and step great-granddaughter, Lauren Michelle Hoggard. James was a retired self-employed mechanic and service station operator. He was a US Army veteran and member of First Christian Church.
His family includes his second wife, Alice Phelps Gurganus of Plymouth, N.C.; sons, Mike J. Gurganus and wife Caroline of Plymouth, N.C. and Kevin R. Gurganus and wife Vicki of Durham, N.C.; step-daughter, Brenda C. Roberson of Williamston, N.C.; sister, Evelyn G. Phelps of Plymouth, N.C.; brother, Ralph Gurganus of Bartlesville, OK.; two grandchildren, five step-grandchildren and five step-great grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held Sunday, November 29, 2009 at 2 p.m. at First Christian Church, Plymouth with Reverend V. Tom Banks officiating. Burial will follow in Windley Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Saturday, November 28, 2009 from 6 to 8 p.m. at First Christian Church and other times at the residence. Arrangements are by Maitland Memorial Chapel, Plymouth.
