Priscilla Catherine Armstrong Carter, age 77, resided in Chandler, Arizona, died peacefully at home on Sunday, November 22, 2009 after battling lung cancer. Priscilla was born on June 12, 1932 in Fairfield, North Carolina to Charles Ludford and Lucy Belle Baum Armstrong. Within two years of her birth, she went to live with her aunt Elizabeth Leigh Baum Spencer and her husband R. S. (Tony) Spencer of Engelhard and was reared as their child.
Priscilla married Paul Matthew Carter, Jr. on August 23, 1950. She is survived by daughters, Priscilla Toni Gonzales and husband, Art of Mesa, AZ, Karen Pletsch of Holden, Massachusetts, Kelli Carter of Holden, Massachusetts, and son, Paul Matthew (Matt) Carter III and wife, Dawn of Chandler, AZ, her sister, Mary Lee Spencer Tilghman and husband, Bobby of Kinston and brother R.S. Spencer, Jr. of Engelhard. Also surviving are a sister, Lillian South of Florence, South Carolina and brother Jethroe Armstrong of Florida; five grandchildren, Mark, Adam, Erin, Timothy, Megan and two great-grandchildren and one on the way.
She was preceded in death by sisters, Iva Dean Delgado, Senorita Mae (Tapp) Hodges and Rose Marie De Borde.
A service will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, November 30, 2009 at St. Andrews Church in Chandler, AZ.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 3, 2009 at Engelhard Baptist Church, Engelhard, N. C. Rev. C.L. Reynolds will officiate. Burial will follow in Fulford Cemetery.
