James K. Dunbar 1944 – 2009

James Kenneth “Jimmy” Dunbar, 65, of 1901 Puddin Hill Road, The Sladesville Community, Scranton, died Saturday, November 28, 2009, at Cross Creek Health Care Center in Swan Quarter.
Born in Beaufort County, May 23, 1944, he was the son of the late Keith Barrett and Thelma K. Richards Dunbar. He was a graduate of West Hyde High School in 1962, Chowan College and East Carolina College in 1967 with a BA degree in history and minor in psychology. He ran a family logging business, was plant operations manager of the Scranton fertilizer plant for Lebanon Chemicals for 15 years, was sales consultant with Clark Ford in Belhaven until his retirement; was a former board member of Pungo Christian Academy, active member and past president of Mattamuskeet Jaycees and a member of Swan Quarter Christian Church.
Jimmy loved sports, was a diehard UNC basketball and NASCAR fan and loved living in the farm house he grew up in and the country way of life.
Surviving are his wife, the former Carolyn Marshall; a brother and best friend, Bobby and wife, Rebecca; two sons, Chuck and wife, Brooke and Todd and wife, Karen; four grandchildren, Kayla Brooke and her fiancé, Dakota, Katie Todd, Nathan Charles, and Natalie James Dunbar; two special nephews, Robbie Dunbar and wife, Wendy and Richard Dunbar and wife, Tina; four great-nephews and nieces, Joshua, Jordan, Keith and Kylie Dunbar; mother-in-law, Eugenia S. Hurley; special friends (adopted Yankee family) Arthur and Marni Graff.
Special thanks to wonderful friends at Marion Shepard Cancer Center, Hospice, Beaufort County Medical Center, Pungo District Hospital and Cross Creek Health Care.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Swan Quarter Christian Church. Dr. Sonny Furrow, Raffael Farrow, Jr. and Dr. Bill Griffin will officiate. Burial will follow in Mount Olive Church of Christ Cemetery at Ponzer. Serving as pallbearers will be Robbie Dunbar, Richard Dunbar, Bill Lawrence, Danny Simpson, Wayne Woolard, Georgie Williams, Mark Carawan and Carr Baynor.
